Goals & challenges

The SMIL Foundation wanted to optimise their website and adapt it to the requirements of a professional organisation.

Mr. Toucans built the engine and designed the new website to ensure smooth operation. Together with SMILfonden, they created an SEO-friendly structure for the website, to which SMILfonden employees could contribute SEO-optimised texts.

Many contributions from companies and private individuals are donated via the website, which the new website should be able to handle securely.

Task description

”Things have moved quickly since we started six years ago. We now have a professional organisation that is responsible for more than 100 activities a year, both in hospitals, mainly in the form of hospital parties, and outside hospitals, in the form of SMILcamps, networking trips and counselling, among other things. Compared to this rapid development, our website has remained virtually unchanged.” – Expresses Sisse Fisker, founder and director of the SMIL Foundation.

This was an unsustainable situation, as the website is an important platform for collecting donations. Therefore, the SMIL Foundation also wanted the website to generate more traffic, for example by utilising Google Grants, a special AdWords service that Google provides free of charge to charitable organisations.

The SMIL Foundation was therefore ready for change when they were contacted by Mr. Toucans. ”It was like a gift from heaven,” says Sisse. The good timing marked the beginning of the collaboration between the SMIL Foundation and Mr. Toucans.

Result

With the new WordPress website, the SMIL Foundation now has a user-friendly front end, which means that employees can now add new content themselves and are no longer dependent on an external partner. At the same time, a structure has been built into the website that focuses on news and activities, thus providing a more accurate picture of the foundation's many activities.

The website layout was created by Mr. Toucans based on the SMIL Foundation's general guidelines, and Sisse offers the following words of advice:

The SMIL Foundation's need for a website that can handle donations from companies and individuals securely has been met by following current digital security guidelines.

Finally, the new website enables the SMIL Foundation to analyse user behaviour on the site. This new knowledge will be an important input for the ongoing updating of the website.
